The Return of Rhetoric

This is interesting to me, just because I’ve never seen a president do this kind of thing before.  Apparently he’s actually committed to his policies and wants to see something get done to help people.  



Look.  I have about two memories of Bill Clinton, but most of my political recall is of George W. Bush, who wasn’t exactly renowned for his ability to inspire or persuade.  So it’s interesting, surprising even, to watch our new president use his rhetorical gifts in the middle of heated congressional debate to actually convince people one way or the other.  This is real politics.  Can you imagine George W. Bush going down to Capitol Hill like this when he was trying to push social security reform?  No way.
